BENIN

Benin and the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) first joined forces to fight malaria in 2008. The West African nation has one of the highest malaria burdens in the world with malaria as the leading cause of death among children under 5 years old and cause of death and sickness among adults. Since 2008, PMI and partners worked in collaboration with Benin to scale up malaria interventions, showing significant improvement in insecticide-treated net access and malaria treatment for pregnant women. Today, Benin stands out as a leader in the malaria fight amidst the COVID-19 pandemic with their effective adoption of digital tools and strategies to prevent and treat malaria.
