BURKINA FASO

With increased funding, in 2017, the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) expanded its life-saving work to five additional countries, including Burkina Faso. Burkina Faso ranks among the ten highest malaria burden countries in sub-Saharan Africa, with malaria posing a threat throughout the country. Insecticide resistance is increasing every year in Burkina Faso and resistance is evident in many parts of the country. The country’s government, with support from PMI, is launching a comprehensive response with new tools including the distribution of new insecticide resistance-fighting nets, spraying homes with new insecticides, and stepping up as the first PMI country to fully track its indoor residual spraying (IRS) campaigns with mobile data.
